Family/Group Therapy

Family therapy is an extension of individual therapy for adults and adolescents when the family system seems to be no longer working.

Perhaps…

… your teen has started retreating from the family and has a new friend group. There may be constant anger at just your presence.

Or

… your spouse is threatening to leave you along with the overwhelming responsibility for finances, kids, and household maintenance.

Or

… either a child or a parent is angry all the time and refuses to participate in routine chores or family obligations.

These are situations in which families need help.

How does family therapy work?

The goal of family therapy is to reduce distress and conflict by improving the systems of interactions between family members.

Because family therapy views problems as patterns or systems that need adjusting and not as problems residing in an individual(s), while desirable, it is not always necessary to have all family members affected by the problem in the room.

Through the process of working in a family group setting, we can help your family re-establish healthy boundaries and desperately needed reception skills.
